Clear skies and cooler weather provided the right energy to make Mabton’s first end-of-summer celebration a success this past Saturday, Aug. 25, at Feezell Park.

The Greater Mabton Association (GMA) scheduled the Mabton Summer Bash as a second chance for a fun community gathering when a sudden June storm blew Mabton Community Day vendors and families out of the park shortly after the celebration began.

“It was a really nice, pleasant day in the park for everyone who came,” GMA President Sophie Sotelo said.

“The car show part of the celebration attracted about 40 entries and added a good mix of families to the community day,” she said.

“Vendors who were blown away in June were given a free chance to recoup their lost business, and a handful of new vendors took advantage of the opportunity to sell their wares or educate the local folk on a variety of issues,” Sotelo said.

“We will look at making this an annual event,” she added.
