DUI ends in assault charges

— An evening two-car crash Sunday ended in the arrest of one driver for DUI and vehicular assault.

In his charging narrative for Gusmaro Rosales Chapina, 42, at Yakima County Superior Court, officer R. Flores said the 6:10 p.m. collision on McCreadie Road near Olmstead Road resulted in multiple injuries.

Flores wrote witness-victims pointed out the driver of the suspect vehicle – Chapina. The narrative shows Chapina tried to leave the scene. Flores said the driver’s door was the only one open on Chapina’s car.

Flores said injuries on Chapina’s forehead were consistent with the damage found on the windshield in front of the steering wheel.

Upon contacting Chapina, Flores said in the narrative, he could smell the odor of upon his person, and Chapina had watery, bloodshot eyes. A warrant was granted for taking blood from Chapina, which was done at Astria Sunnyside Hospital.
