GRANGER The Zillah Leopards boys wrestling team this past Saturday clinched the South Central Athletic Conference-West District championship with 469.5 points.
The Granger Spartans were second with 247 points.
There were seven champions, five in second place and five in third place among the Leopards.
The Spartans had six champions, a second- and a third-place medalist.
The teams travel to Sultan this coming Saturday for Regionals. The Top 4 from that tournament advance to the Mat Classic.
Granger’s Jeremiah Salcedo defeated Zillah’s Nate Mendoza with a pin in 1:50 in the 106-pound championship bout.
In the 113-pound weight class, Dawson Husted of the Leopards claimed the title with a 5-3 decision against Naches’ Devon Gantt.
Gustavo Cisneros of Zillah defeated teammate Abel Toncoso in the 120-pound title match via a 5-2 decision. Granger’s Ramiro Jimenez was third.
The 126-pound title went to Joel Coronel of the Leopards after he won a 16-4 major decision against teammate Emmanuel Troncoso.
Spartans 132-pound wrestler Juan Arteaga defeated Cle Elum-Roslyn’s Joey Moen for the title. Arteaga got the pin in 3:29.
Wade Koerner of the Leopards won the 138-pound title with an 11-3 major decision against Highland’s Gabe Westgard. Zillah teammate Eric De La Rosa was third.
Granger’s Juan Isiordia is the titlist in the 145-pound weight class after pinning Zilla’s Lane Damron in 1:11. Edgar Rojas of the Leopards was third.
In the 152-pound title bout, Diego Isiordia of the Spartans won the title with an 8-2 decision against Goldendale’s Dusty Dodge. Zillah’s Neo Crossley was third.
Favored to win the 160-pound title was Robert Berger of the Spartans. He clinched the title with an 11-4 decision against Cle Elum-Roslyn’s Nick Fordham. Quinton Rogers-Burgett of the Leopards was third.
Isaac Vargas of the Leopards won an 8-2 decision against Ramon Oliveras of the Spartans for the 170-pound title. Zillah teammate Derek Davis was third.
Another title in the 182-pound weight class was claimed by Zillah’s Fermin Martinez, who defeated Highland’s Jorge Villafan via fall in 1:09.
In the 195-pound title match, Zillah’s Jose Alejandre lost by fall in 15 seconds to champion Hunter Gangle of Naches.
Wyatt Tynan laid claim to the 220-pound title with a 9-5 decision against Blake Andrews of Naches.
The last title, 285 pounds, was won by Granger’s Jose Mendoza. He pinned Luke Crippen of Naches.
