BENTON CITY A young man from this community devised a novel way to join the U.S. Army.
However, no one in authority appreciated it, and 24-year-old Kerry E. Brooks ended up in the Franklin County Jail in Pasco.
According to an online posting by the Pasco Police Department, Brooks had recently been staying at the Mission in downtown Pasco.
Some time Friday, Police said, Brooks managed to get into the compound of the National Guard Armory. And he found a military Humvee he was able to get into. Somehow, Brooks was able to start the engine.
The gate to the compound was locked, but that didn’t deter Brooks. He crashed the Humvee through the gate.
Brooks then drove the Humvee to the Yakima Training Center. He stopped at the gate and told the guards he had taken the vehicle from Pasco and wanted to join the Army.
Sadly for Brooks, the Army was not recruiting alleged burglars or thieves.
Yesterday, Brooks was under arrest at the Franklin County Corrections Center for Burglary, Auto Theft and Malicious Mischief.
