Work is still being done on the exterior of the newly expanded Anything Fitness Center on East Lincoln Avenue.

— Sunnyside resident Pedro Torres had just finished his mid-day workout at Anything Fitness Center, ready to tackle the rest of his day.

Full of energy, he had a lot of compliments about his favorite workout center.

“It’s great,” the 21-year-old fitness enthusiast said. “It’s less crowded and cleaner. I used to go to the club when it was on Yakima Valley Highway by Pizza Hut, but this new place is great.”

That feeling was echoed by fellow member Jorge Trujillo.

“It’s bigger, and there is more room,” Trujillo said. “I really appreciate the extra parking space.”

The new Anytime Fitness Center, opened two weeks ago in the remodeled portion of Eastway Shopping Center on East Edison Avenue.

The new center has been undergoing remodeling since last summer.

Now, new members are beginning to check it out employee Ignacio Portillo, said.

A lot of the exercise equipment is self-driven, but Portillo said staff is usually on hand to spot and help with equipment questions.

“It’s really nice here,” he said.

In addition to having more workout equipment, there are larger changing rooms, more showers, a salon for Zumba classes and a larger area for free weights.

There is even a comfortable waiting area for those waiting to join.

“We have a lot more televisions, more cameras and I think this is a pretty safe place to be keeping fit,” he said.

Portillo said the facility is about 8,000 square feet, roughly double the size of the center’s old Yakima Valley Highway facility.

The center takes up about half of the old Ace Hardware and lumber center, Portillo said. It is staffed Monday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

After-hours members have special fobs to allow them access, in keeping with the Anytime Fitness name.
