YAKIMA A West Valley High School student was arrested Tuesday after allegedly bringing a gun to school and making threats on social media.
The student was arrested for second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of dangerous weapons on school facilities "after some investigation," Yakima County Sheriff's Office spokesman Michael Williams said. He did not release the name of the teenager.
According to an arrest narrative, the student brought a gun to the school at 9206 Zier Road about 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26.
West Valley School District officials notified the Sheriff's Office that the student claimed to have brought a firearm to the school, the narrative said.
"The student made the claim on social media and advised of having suicidal thoughts," the narrative said. "There were no threats either made or ensued at students or staff at this campus or any other in the district."
