Forgery leads to arrest

— A local man appeared in court yesterday, charged with forgery.

Alvaro Licea, 25, was charged in connections with crimes that occurred Nov. 24 and Dec. 1, court records show.

According to Yakima County Superior Court records, Licea had forged a check at Fred Meyer, 1206 N. 40th Ave., Yakima, to purchase items.

The check was stolen from Howard and Linda Benbrook, records show.

Licea was already in custody at the county jail for other crimes, so a Sheriff’s Office deputy re-arrested him Friday for forgery, records show.

Licea, who has been in jail since Dec. 30, refused to speak to the arresting deputy, records show.
