— A battle between the Spartans and Zillah wrestling teams is always filled with action.

The Spartans are currently No. 3 in the state 1A polls and the Leopards are No. 10.

The Leopards won, 46-31, with four pins, a major decision and three forfeited matches.

The Spartans won three matches by pin, a major decision, a decision and a forfeit.

In addition to several state-ranked individuals from each of the boys teams, Viktorya Torres, No. 1 in the girls 115-pound weight class, got in on the action.

She won a 6-3 decision against 113-pound Dawson Husted of the Leopards in the 120-pound bout. When it looked like he may have had the upper hand in the third round of the bout, Husted wrapped Torres in a cradle hold. She used the move to her advantage to pin his shoulder to the mat in reverse to the delight of Spartans fans.

Husted is No. 7 in his own weight class.

In the 132-pound bout, Joel Coronel of the Leopards wrestled up from his 126-pound weight class in which he is ranked No. 4. He pinned Jessie Manjarres of the Spartans in the second round.

The eighth-ranked 138-pound Wade Koerner wrestled Juan Arteaga, who is No. 6 in the 132-pound classification, and won a 12-2 major decision for the Leopards.

Granger’s Juan Isiordia, No. 1, wrestled in his own weight class — 145 pounds. He pinned Steve De La Rosa of the Leopards in the first round.

Neo Crossley won the 152-pound bout via forfeit. The Leopards grappler is No. 11 in that weight class.

Granger’s No. 1-ranked 160-pound Robert Berger pinned Zillah’s No. 10-ranked Quinton Rogers Burgett in the first round.

In the 170-pound match, Diego Isiordia — No. 6 at 160 pounds — defeated Cristian De Oca of the Leopards via a 14-1 major decision.

Another Zillah grappler to wrestle up a weight class from 170 to 182 pounds was Issac Vargas. He is No. 4 in his weight class and pinned Ramon Olivera in the second round.

Fermin Martinez of Zillah, who wrestles at 182 pounds, won the heavier 195-pound bout with a first-round pin against George Monreal of the Spartans.

Zillah won the 220-pound bout via forfeit, and Granger’s No. 5-ranked Jose Mendoza won the 285-pound match by forfeit.

No. 4-ranked Nathaniel Mendoza of the Leopards also claimed the win by forfeit in the 106-pound classification.

Granger’s No. 3-ranked 106-pound Jeremiah Salcedo competed in the 113-pound bout against Daniel Ochoa and won a first-round pin.

The final bout, 126 pounds, resulted in a second round pin by 120-pound Gustavo Cisneros of the Leopards. The No. 11-ranked grappler defeated Granger’s Omar Solis.

Abel Troncosco — No. 12 at 126 pounds — of Zillah, No. 8-ranked Ramiro Jimenez (120) of the Spartans and Angel Roman — No. 7 at 106 pounds — of Granger did not compete.

The teams compete again 6 p.m. next Thursday in Zillah.
