Astria Auxiliary presents 14 scholarships

— Astria Sunnyside Hospital Auxiliary awarded $18,000 in scholarships to 14 area students pursuing degrees in the medical field.

This is the most ever awarded by the auxiliary, officials said.

Receiving $1,000 are:

Emily Banks, 17, of Mabton, is a senior at Sunnyside Christian High. She is planning on going to nursing school through Yakima Valley Community College.

Lauren Beeman, 18, of Sunnyside, is a senior at Sunnyside High School. She plans to attend YVCC to be an X-ray technician.

Sienna Cavazos, 18, of Sunnyside, is a senior at Sunnyside High School. She plans to attend either YVCC or Columbia Bason College to be an X-ray technician.

Sailor Liefke, 17, of Sunnyside is a senior at Sunnyside Christian High School. She plans to attend Walla Walla Community College for nursing,

Alyssa Martin, 18, of Sunnyside, is a senior at Sunnyside Christian High School. She plans to attend Whitworth College for nursing.

Lexi Skyles, 18, of Outlook, is a senior at Sunnyside High School. She will be attending Willamete University for physical therapy.

David Ledesma, 19, of Prosser, is attending George Fox University for nursing.

Haley Mierndorf, 18, of Prosser, is a senior at Prosser High School. She will attend Eastern Washington University for nursing.

Laynie Brien, 18, of Outlook, is a senior at Granger High School. She will attend YVCC for nursing.

Briana Sanchez, 17, of Toppenish, is a senior at Toppenish High School. She will attend YVCC to be a physical therapy assistant.

Receiving $2,000 are:

Jessica Linde, 19, of Sunnyside, attends Eastern Washington University, working toward being either a physician assistant or nurse.

A.J. Rioja, 18, of Prosser attends Washington State University, studying to become a registered nurse.

Katelyn Banks, 20, of Mabton, is a graduate of Sunnyside Christian High School. She attends Seattle Pacific University, studying orthopedics.

Daylraye Hutchinson, 20, of Outlook, attends WSU studying to be a nurse.

The scholarship funds are from Astria Sunnyside Hospital’s gift shop.
