Sunnyside neads a 'city leader,' not just a manager

— Sunnyside is looking for a new city manager, a position in which we have had turnover.

This time, we need to hire a “city leader.”

Our new city manager cannot be someone just holding down the position. We need a leader, not simply a manager.

Sunnyside has an excellent opportunity to prosper under leadership. We have a port district that has been aggressive with new leadership recruiting business into our industrial business parks and the downtown core.

With the hospital’s new leadership, we have expanded services, and someday a new regional hospital,

Our School District is continuing to grow and improve with graduation rates and retention, under new leadership.

It’s become known for improvements.

We now need a city with leadership.

The council should get some help from a leadership skills trainer, so when they interview applicants, they know what they are looking for. This community deserves to have council members spend the time to hire the right person for the second largest city in Yakima County.

Our city government should hire a new manager — and other employees — and require living in the city.

When an employee does not live where they work, they do not participate.

With all the great things happening here, the city can have a recruitment package put together that would entice talent with great leadership skills.

Now is our opportunity to make the second largest City in Yakima County a good leader, so that our community can prosper and grow.
