Family night to feature flamenco artist

— A Flamenco performance will be held as a family night event at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Smith Elementary School, 205 Fir St.

The 90-minute performance will showcase Savannah Fuentes with Flamenco guitarist Pedro Cortes, 21st Century After School site coordinator Kyle Gillis said.

“As a bonus, the community will have the opportunity to learn more about the 21st Century Afterschool programs in our schools,” Gillis said

She said Fuentes, a Seattle resident, born to parents of Puerto Rican and Irish ancestry, is one of the only touring artists in the Pacific Northwest region with strong links to Flamenco culture.

“We are thrilled to provide this event for the Grandview community. This is a great opportunity to bring the youth and their families to-gether for a unique cultural event. It is open to the entire community at no charge,” Gillis said.

Fuentes studies both baile (Flamenco dance)and cante (Flamenco singing) and has toured throughout the country.

She has independently produced over 200 perfor-mances and workshops fea-turing internationally recognized Spanish Flamenco artists.
