Soccer Mustangs fall by one goal at Connell

Eagles a tough 1A program; Prosser thin

CONNELL — When you consider the competition, Prosser’s 3-2 soccer loss on Saturday, March 10, was a pretty good outing. Connell has been a 1A power the past few years.

“We played a good game,” coach Ricky Ruiz said. “We had only one sub available, so some players didn’t get any rest.”

Ruiz added that the team should have 15-16 players for a 4 p.m. contest against Ephrata at Prosser March 13.

Prosser’s first score came in the 7th minute when Ricardo Herrera converted a free kick and tied the score at 1-1.

In the 63rd minute, after Connell had gone up, 3-1, Prosser rallied for its second goal. Emilio Herrera scored off a pass from Ricardo Herrera.

“We have talent, but some of the players are new,” Ruiz said. “They’re still learning how to fit in.”

For the game, Prosser had seven shots, three on goal. Connell went 9-and-5. Prosser keeper Esteban Rodriguez made two saves.
