MEDICAL LAKE The Sunnyside Christian girls lost their most recent fastpitch game Monday, May 21, but do not fret Knights fans.
That game was only for positioning in the state 1B tournament at the Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima this Friday and Saturday, May 25-26.
The Knights defeated Pomeroy, 11-1, earlier in the day to qualify for state.
But then the local girls had a 5-0 loss to Colton, in a game the Knights will want to forget as soon as possible.
They had only three singles and a double.
The game against Pomeroy that got Sunnyside Christian to state, featured some hard hitting by the Knights.
Sailor Liefke batted 2-3 slugging two doubles.
She walked once, stole 1 base and batted in 3 runs.
Brooklon Struikmans went 2-3 with 2 doubles, 2 walks and 2 RBI.
Alyssa Martin batted 1-3 with 2 runs, 1 double, 1 BB and 2 RBI
Cobi VanSlageren went 1/1 with 2 runs, 1 single, 1 walk, 1 sacrifice bunt and 1 run.
And despite the loss to Colton, the Knights girls will still have a shot at a championship run.
The girls open the state tournament at 1 p.m. Friday against Quilcene at the Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.
The winner will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the Pomeroy-Inchelium game.
Colton is on the other side of the eight-team bracket, opening with Wishkah Valley, also at 1 p.m.
The winner of that game will advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Almira/Coulee-Hartline vs. Rainier Christian game.
