Mabton goes out fighting

BREWSTER — The Mabton Vikings’ season drew to an end in Friday’s match-up against Brewster.

The Vikings lost 28-47 to the Bears in the non-league game, ending the season 4-3, 5-5 and No. 4 in the Eastern Washington football standings.

Unable to score in the first half, Mabton was in a 0-39 deficit before finally getting on the scoreboard in the third quarter.

Despite putting up a fight, the Vikings were unable to overcome the earlier deficit, posting all 28 points in the second half.

Andrez Zavala, Jorge Espinoza, Alexis Garcia and Rodrigo Preciado each punched the ball into the end zone for a touchdown.

Zavala completed 8-of-15 passes for 158 yards and was intercepted by the Bears once. He also rushed the ball 16 times for 77 yards.

Armando Morales caught 3 passes for 73 yards, and Garza hauled in 2 for 50 yards.

Mabton had a total of 220 yards on 47 plays on offense, and Brewster amassed 450 yards on 66 plays.
