Mustangs head to state

— Having lost last Thursday’s District championship match to Ellensburg, 1-3, the Mustangs had to fight in a crossover match against East Valley (Spokane) on Saturday.

Prosser prevailed in three sets to earn a berth in the 2A State Volleyball Tournament to be staged this Friday and Saturday at St. Martin’s University in Lacey.

The set scores against the Bulldogs were 24-26, 25-22, 14-25, 17-25, and against the Knights, the scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25-16.

Saturday, the team leaders were Ashley Ripplinger with 17 kills, 11 blocks and 2 aces; Jenna Schnellbach with 12 kills and 9 digs; Abby Baze with 2 kills and 5 blocks; Kayla Lind provided 26 assists, 6 aces, 3 digs and a kill; Brooke Bennett dropped low for 9 digs and served 2 aces; Kelli Munn had a kill; and Halle Wright had a kill and 4 aces.

The Mustangs open the state tournament against Fife at 1 p.m. Friday.
