Sunnyside and Toppenish soccer players seem to be in sync with their drive to gain control of the ball during the Grizzlies’ 2-0 home victory last Saturday. The two Sunnyside players pictured, brothers Noe (24) and Jacob (5) Meza, played key roles in the victory. Noe scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 40th minute, assisted by his brother. Noe Meza then helped seal the win in the 64th minute when he assisted on a goal scored by Christian Chavez. Pictured are Toppenish players Hector Robles (18) and Eliseo Alcala (6) as Sunnyside’s Alexander Marin (12) looks on at right. Keeper Manuel Calvillo was strong in goal for Sunnyside with eight saves. “He puts pressure on the opponent, creates a smaller target,” Coach David Guevara said of Calvillo’s play in also helping turn back two Toppenish penalty kick attempts. The Grizzlies (4-0) return to action Thursday at rival Grandview. Guevara said co-Coach Sergio Licona reminded the team it has to approach the re-match with the Greyhounds as a ‘chess master.’
