Students and the community leaders turned out Tuesday to receive checks amounting to $700 raised by the students in a recent penny driver. Pictured, standing, from left to right, are Roosevelt Elementary School first grade teacher Jan Golob, Janet Wheaton, student Sam Johnston, Principal Ann Bohrnsen, Melany Castro, Miangel Gonzalez, Karen Kobes, Corrina Slade, Helen Dodd, Jo Klarich and Jacqueline Herrera. Seated in front is Mrs. Golob’s first graders who collected the most money in the entire school — $90.

Students empty their banks for new splash park venture
The children’s penny banks are empty, but all for a good cause. The Roosevelt Elementary School students launched a drive earlier this month in support of the community’s Splash Park.
